A little bit about me
Hello! My name is Sarita. I initially came to the Netherlands to study for my Master degree in Psychology in Maastricht University. After completing my studies I have decided to make this wonderful country my home. Since then I have been living in the beautiful beach town of Scheveningen for the last 7 years. Before that, I lived in Canada and Hong Kong for many years. Because of that, I have extensive comprehension and experience of cultures from both the East and West. I also understand the difficulties expats face when moving to a new country.
In addition to a Master degree in Psychology, I have also obtained a Master degree in Sociology, I recognise the importance of cultural and social influences, and consider them as a backdrop of my work. Before starting my own practice, I had an amazing experience working at Parnassia Groep - I-Psy (Interculturele Psychiatrie), which specialising in providing psychological and psychiatric help to people from different cultural backgrounds. My theoretical approach is based mainly on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Positive Psychology, and Solution Focused Therapy.
I have the idea to set up Mindful Cactus because I have experienced first hand how psychotherapy and mindfulness have helped me in overcoming some of the toughest moments in my life. (Yes, even psychologists need professional help sometimes! We are only human :) Moreover, I have learnt to lead a healthier and more fulfilling lifestyle, and as equally important, how to be a better person to my family and friends. That is why I want to share this knowledge with you, so you will have the adequate tools you need when facing life's challenges.
